Description
Every year, the Valloire Baroque Festival offers a week of Baroque events (concerts, lectures, musical walks) featuring the world's leading Baroque artists.
The theme of the 2025 edition is A Sacred World!
From the Middle Ages to contemporary music, from the Ensemble Obsidienne to Gesualdo six (which is stopping off in Valloire as part of its European tour), the sacred world imposes itself on mankind. It can be religious, as the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Versailles and Ensemble Clematis will illustrate with their Stabat Mater, but it can also be a meditation on the profound meaning of life, as illustrated by the duet Dulces Exuviae, a few themes of which I will confide to you: twilight, dream, moonlight, dawn, "in te Domine speravi" ... In any case, this sacred world, whose vision surpasses the limited gaze of man, has given rise to some of the most sublime music, such as Couperin's Les Leçons de Ténèbres with the Pulcinella Ensemble featuring Ophélie Gaillard, Sandrine Piau and Emmanuelle de Negri, or Carlo Gesualdo's "ripped-off" polyphony, which was later taken up by Stravinsky, even though in his day, early music was no longer sung. The sacred world is conveyed as much through the contemplation of Mary before Jesus as through the reversal of habitual values, as in the medieval feast of the donkey mass, where laymen bring the donkey carrying Mary into the church and make it sing Hi! Han! in front of the altar. Ensemble Obsidienne can suggest it! It would be hard to imagine this happening again!
